About Counselling
Counselling offers a safe and non-judgemental environment for clients to speak freely about their lives and emotions with a trained professional. Counsellors do not prescribe medication, but may refer you to a psychiatrist or general practitioner if deemed necessary.

What happens during a counselling session?
Initially we will have an intake and assessment session. During this first session, we will try to identify key areas to address during our future sessions together. This initial session will feel more like an interview, as it is important for me to get as much information about you as possible. What happens during the sessions thereafter varies, depending on the unique case each client brings. Some clients may not have obvious issues to discuss and would just like to have someone to talk to. While other clients may be struggling with trauma or anxiety and need some help coping with these things. Every session is different, and it is my duty to continually remain non-judgemental and committed to your wellbeing.
What topics can be discussed in counselling?
I am considering counselling, but how do I know it’s for me?
I would always recommend trying some sessions with me and seeing how it makes you feel. As humans, most of us have some traumas or difficulties in our lives that could be talked about during sessions. Some clients also consider counselling as a preventative measure, to maintain their existing wellbeing and feel secure in having a counsellor to support them.
What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?
Psychotherapy and counselling differ in theoretical approaches, training, and applications. They often differ in length of sessions as well, with psychotherapeutic relationships usually lasting longer. Depending on the jurisdiction of the country or state, psychotherapy tends to be more catered toward severe mental illness, while counselling can be used for more specific issues in healthier individuals. Psychotherapy also varies within itself, as it originates from different schools of training. Counselling tends to use a broader range of skills with a strong focus on support, empathy, and wellbeing.
How long does counselling last?
A session is 50 minutes long for individual sessions and 90 minutes for group sessions. The frequency and how long the sessions continue vary from client to client.
Who can attend counselling?
I offer my online services to adults over 18 years of age who would like to either attend sessions alone, as a couple, or in a group. One-on-one counselling means that my focus is entirely on your wellbeing. If you wish to attend with a partner, a friend, or family member, I am also able to offer my services to help certain aspects in your relationship.
What can be worked on in couples counselling?
Relationships can be difficult. Whether with a partner, family member or a friend, counselling can help to improve certain aspects such as communication, conflict resolution, and understanding. For romantic relationships, counselling can also help in providing a safe environment to talk about sex and feelings.
